From 1950s until the 1980s Guatemala was under the reign of terror of an American backed fascist government, like much of South America. The genocide of the country’s Mayan population is still routinely denied and has had lasting effects on Guatemala, as well as its neighbors. Over 20,000 people were murdered, and another 40,000 disappeared under the despots Lucas Garcia, General Benedicto Lucas and Ríos Montt. Today we are speaking with Rosanne Costantino about this Silent Holocaust.
