In an open democratic society (not least compared to China), identity politics is fluid and shifting, and people are free to make their decisions in a transparent election, isn’t it? Or in the mind of the guest speaker, “the people” are mindless swarm of subjects who were unable to understand all the nuances, clean slates waiting to be manipulated by the propaganda? Or do you think there is a significant difference between the authoritarian and democratic regimes in the ways propaganda is conveyed and seeped into the society?
